No. SARS have issued a form “Confirmation of Diagnosis of Disability” (ITR-DD) that needs to be completed by you and a duly qualified Medical Practitioner. It is important that the latest version of this form is used as it now generates a unique reference number for each applicant. You can download this form from the SARS website or request it from us via email - adelien@acgconsult.co.za.
A completed ITR-DD form that has been endorsed by a duly registered medical practitioner will remain valid for: 10 years where the disability is of a permanent nature; and. 1 year where the disability is of a temporary nature. If you have a form that was signed prior to 23 June 2023 you do not need a new form with a uniqe reference number. All forms completed after 23 June 2023 has to be the latest version with the unique reference number.
If you qualified to receive the applicable tax relief in previous years but you did not take “disability” into account when attending to your tax matters, it is possible that we could be able to re-visit those prior years. How far back you can go is dependant on your unique circumstances.
