Can I claim the SARS Additional Medical Tax Credit?

If you are unsure if you qualify - drop us a line.

You can claim the SARS Disability Tax Relief if you or your dependent have a  specific impairment that has a significant effect or limitation on your daily life.

  • This could be a physical, sensory (visual or hearing), communication, intellectual, or mental impairment including neurodiverse individuals.
  • The condition has to be likely to last for more than one year.
  • It has to be confirmed by a relevant, registered medical practitioner.
  • The effects of the impairment must remain moderate to severe even after the maximum amount of treatment or therapy.

What information or documentation is required to claim?

  •  For tax purposes SARS requires you to retain a completed “Confirmation of Diagnosis of Disability form” (ITR-DD form) as supporting evidence of the disability.
  • For each amount included in your claim you need to provide a valid invoice AND proof of payment.
  • For a more comprehensive list of supporting documents, please contact us directly.
